Garage clutter

Garages are great places for storing things, but this means that they can quickly become full and cluttered if you aren’t keeping it organised. Anything that doesn’t fit in your house will start littering it to the point where you don’t know how you’re going to tidy it up. Preventing the mess in the first place is the best course of action to keep your garage tidy, but we’ve got a few tips for clearing out an untidy garage too.

First things first, you’re going to want to work out what you need and what you don’t. The best way to work it out is if you haven’t used it in the past year, and if it didn’t cost too much and has no sentimental value, you can probably get rid of it. Once you’ve figured out what you’re keeping, divide what’s remaining into things you can donate to people who will get more out of it than you, such as friends, family or charities. The things that are left will be fine to dispose of.

Take Everything Out Before Starting

Before you even start to organise your garage, take everything out. This will mean that you have the space to move everything around and you know exactly what you have in your garage. With an empty garage you’ll be able to get a better idea about how you can use the space its best

Vertical and Ceiling Storage

Your storage shouldn’t just be limited to your floor, you can utilise your walls and ceilings too! Fitting shelves or hangers will mean that you can use each and every inch of your walls to fit as much into your garage as possible. Ceiling space should also be utilised- you can store your ladders up there with some heavy duty hooks or fittings. Make sure they’re safely secured though.

Keep Similar Items Near Each Other

Having everything in a place where you’ll quickly and easily be able to find it is the ideal situation for your garage. To achieve this, keep similar items near to each other so you’ll always know where about they are. A drill and a mop don’t need to be kept close together, but screws and brackets are somewhat similar and should be grouped near to each other.

Label Everything

Another tip for making things easy to find is having everything labelled clearly. This will prevent rummaging through every box to figure out what’s inside and mean that you know where things are at a glance.

Of course, with everything stored in your garage you’ll want to make it as secure as possible, and that’s where we come in at Ace Garage Doors.
